  • About Televisions

  • What is a LED TV?

An LED-backlit LCD is a flat panel display that uses LED backlighting instead of the cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) backlighting used in most other LCDs. The use of LED backlighting allows for a thinner panel, lower power consumption, better heat dissipation, a brighter display, and better contrast levels. LED backlit LCD TVs use the same TFT LCD technologies as CCFL backlit LCD TVs. Picture quality is primarily based on TFT LCD technology independent of backlight type. While not an LED display, a television using this display is called an “LED TV”.

LED backlit LCDs are not self-illuminating, unlike pure LED systems. There are several methods of backlighting an LCD panel using LEDs, including the use of either white or RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) LED arrays behind the panel, and edge-LED lighting, which uses white LEDs arranged around the inside frame of the TV and a light diffusion panel to spread the light evenly behind the LCD panel.
  • What is a LCD TV?

On LCD TV’s, the scsreen itself does not illuminate, thus it requires CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lights) backlighting. The benefits of LCDs are their wide range of size, the slim body, less power usage, and the price which is the lowest among other flat screen TVs.
  • What is a CRT TV?

In its most basic form, a color broadcast can be created by broadcasting three monochrome images, one each in the three colors of red, green and blue (RGB). When displayed together or in rapid succession, these images will blend together to produce a full color image as seen by the viewer.

    Full HD 1080 P:

Full HD 1080p is a set of HDTV high-definition video modes that are characterized by 1080 horizontal lines of vertical resolution and progressive scan, meaning the image is not interlaced as is the case with the 1080i display standard. The term assumes a wide screen aspect ratio of 16:9, thus implying a resolution of 1920 × 1080 (2.1 megapixels).

Sometimes referred to in marketing materials as Full HD, 1080p typically refers to the capability to accept 1080p signal and display it with native resolution of at least 1080 lines, as well as the capability to upscale lower-resolution material to 1080p. The HD ready 1080plogo program by DIGITALEUROPE requires that certified TV sets support 1080p24, 1080p50, and 1080p60 formats, and among other requirements, feature a native resolution of at least 1920×1080 pixels. The frame rate can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter 'p', such as 1080p30, meaning 30 progressive frames per second.
