- Waveguide: A rectangular, circular, or elliptical hollow metal tube designed to transport
electromagnetic energy through its interior from one point to another.

- HV Section: The heart of every microwave oven is the high voltage system. Its purpose is to generate microwave energy. The high-voltage components accomplish this by stepping up AC line voltage to high voltage, which is then changed to an even higher DC voltage. This DC power is then converted to the RF energy that cooks the food.
- Magnetron: The nucleus of the high -voltage system is the magnetron tube. The magnetron is a diode-type electron tube which is used to produce the required 2450 MHz of microwave energy
- Cavity: In the oven's cavity, the electromagnetic energy acts on electrically polarized molecules in the food. It causes these molecules to move in an attempt to align themselves with the incoming radiation. As the electromagnetic radiation passes molecules, they attempt to align themselves with the magnetic field of that radiation. But the molecules must constantly move to align themselves with the passing magnetic field. The high frequency energy imparts high frequency "torque" to the molecules, and they "flip around" in the passing magnetic field.
- Control Section: consists of a timer (electronic or electromechanical), a system to control or govern the power output, and various interlock and protection devices. The components in the high-voltage section serve to step up the house voltage to high voltage. The high voltage is then converted microwave energy.
