Factors To Be Considered While Choosing A Washing Machine

  • Family size

If you are a small family of two or three people with not more than two loads of dirty laundry every day, a machine with a modest capacity will suit you fine. A big family should consider a larger machine.

Also keep in mind what the size of your family will be in the future before making your purchase decision. It is a good idea to plan ahead because a washing machine lasts at least for five years. Your washing habit is also an important consideration. You will need a large machine if you don't wash your clothes on a daily basis but only once or twice a week.

Types of Washing Machine

  • Semi Automatic

A Semi Automatic machine has twin tubs and performs all the three functions of washing, rinsing and spin-drying. One tub takes care of washing and rinsing and the other performs spin-drying. Once the wash and rinse cycles are completed in the wash tub, the clothes have to be manually transferred to the spin tub for drying. This model is a best buy for those of you who do not have a constant supply of water for some reason or the other.
  • Fully Automatic

In a Fully Automatic machine all the three tasks of washing, rinsing and drying are performed by a single tub. This machine offers the convenience of selecting a program to perform any one or specific combinations or all of the operations. Further Fully Automatic Washing Machine are divided into Top Load Machine & Front Load Machine.

Top load or front load

  • Front loading machines come with an in-built brush option and they are supposed to clean better and consume less water. Front loads, however, are significantly more expensive when compared with top loads. Additionally, most front loads are very heavy and cannot be moved around the house. Top loads are generally more convenient.

While a front load machine uses a tumble wash process that cleans clothes with a vertical spin movement, a top load machine offers a pulsator wash, which is a horizontal rotation movement. Since different companies offer slightly different cleaning systems, the choice is simply a matter of individual preference.
  • The placement of washing machine

Measure the area where you plan to keep the machine before selecting the model. Choose a spot that is near a tap and a drainage area - ideally in the bathroom, near a sink or even in the kitchen.

If you plan to keep the machine in an area that's generally wet, pick a machine with a rustproof body. The best option is a machine with a plastic body, which will not deteriorate with constant water splashes.
  • Other features

Unless your family is really hard on their clothes, you might not need heavy-duty wash functions. Yet, it's always a good option to get a powerful machine so that you won't have to resort to brush and soap for dirty spots.

Washing machines also offer different washes for various fabrics. Now you can wash even silks and woolens in washing machines with a gentle cycle.
  • The choice of colors

The only question now left is what color to pick! Washing machines come in a range of colors - white, black, and others. Match the color to your bathroom tiling or coordinate it with the area where you will place it.
